Pirate Attack Off Singapore

On July 6, a Singapore-flagged barge was attacked by pirates off Singapore coast.

What happened?

The vessel ‘Winbuild 2313’ was towed by a Singapore-flagged tug boat ‘Bintang Ocean 3’ to Singapore when it was attacked by pirates.

The Singapore Coast Guard were alerted when two suspicious sampans were spotted alongside the barge but when they contacted the captain of the vessel he had replied everything was fine.

Tow lines missing

However, the Singapore Police Coast Guard contacted the vessel after the sampan was still following the vessel. Upon further checking, the tug master reported that four coils of tow line were missing from Winbuild 2313. Fortunately, none of the crew members were injured during the incident.

Investigation initiated

Singapore Coast Guard officials boarded the barge when at arrived at the Changi Barge Holding Anchorage and an investigation has been initiated into the incident to determine the sequence of events.
