Earlier this week, a Greek cargo ship came under attack from armed pirates while sailing in the Gulf of Oman.

What happened?

The cargo ship ‘Chios Freedom’ was attacked by at least 12 gunmen aboard three speed boats off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

The gunmen opened fire with Kalashnikov automatic rifles, before three security guards on board the vessel responded by firing back.

Once the security guards onboard the vessel retaliated by firing back, a fierce battle ensued and the pirates were forced to retreat.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the attack and all 22 crew members onboard the vessel were safe. The cargo vessel is currently on its way towards the Suez Canal.
