Polaris New Energy, a Northstar Midstream company, has placed an order for a second 5,500 cu m LNG bunker barge at US yard Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding through its affiliate PNE Marine Holdings as reported by Splash.
LNG bunker barge
The LNG bunker barge Clean Canaveral, which will be delivered by Fincantieri in mid-November, will be a sister vessel to the new build barge. The ships will be part of Northstar’s expanding fleet, delivering LNG to cruise ships, container ships, bulk carriers, car carriers, and tankers that are currently in operation or on order.
The ABS-classed barge will be equipped with four 1,375 cu m IMO Type C tanks and a Wärtsilä-designed and developed cargo handling system.
Comprehensive platform
“LNG is recognised as a clean, dependable, and competitively priced fuel for the maritime sector,” said Tim Casey, senior vice president, LNG for Northstar. “The arrival of this new vessel further distinguishes Northstar’s ability to safely and successfully manage LNG last-mile operations across the US coastline. The increased capacity will provide unrivalled reliability and flexibility in the current market, and it is the next stage in our plan to build a comprehensive platform of LNG logistics solutions for marine customers.”
