Poland and the United States are exploring ways to expand the flow of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) through Poland to Central Europe, aiming to strengthen regional energy security and reduce reliance on Russian gas. The discussions, held between Poland’s Deputy Energy Minister Wojciech Wrochna and U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright in Washington, also covered progress on Poland’s first nuclear power plant, which will be developed by Westinghouse, according to a statement from Poland’s Energy Ministry.
Strengthening Energy Independence in Central Europe
During the talks, both sides emphasized the strategic importance of using Poland’s growing LNG infrastructure as a gateway for regional energy supply. The ministry noted that one of the key points was the possibility of increasing U.S. LNG deliveries through the Polish gas hub to meet domestic demand and support energy independence for neighboring countries, including Ukraine.
With Poland’s current LNG terminal in operation and another under construction, the nation is positioned to provide reliable energy access to its southeastern partners, particularly Slovakia and Ukraine, marking a significant step toward reducing the region’s dependence on energy imports from the East.
