Port Freeport celebrated the inaugural visit of the Höegh Aurora on March 4th. This vessel is the world’s largest and most environmentally friendly car carrier. The visit underscores Port Freeport’s strategic growth, its partnerships with organizations committed to sustainability, and its ongoing infrastructure investments to accommodate next-generation ships, reports Port Freeport.

Eco Friendly Features

The Höegh Aurora, a modern roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessel with eco-friendly features like a fuel-efficient hull and emissions-reducing technology, recently arrived at Port Freeport. Its arrival was made possible by the Freeport Harbor Channel Improvement Project, which deepened and widened the channel to accommodate larger vessels and improve navigation safety.

Ravi Singhania, Chairman of the Port Freeport Commission, emphasized the growing partnership with Höegh Autoliners, highlighting the economic benefits and the port’s role as a leading automotive trade gateway. He noted the Höegh Aurora’s arrival reflects a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The RORO partnership between Port Freeport and Höegh Autoliners, established in 2015, has been vital to the region’s automotive supply chain. The Höegh Aurora’s arrival further strengthens this partnership, expanding trade and solidifying Port Freeport’s position as a key global commerce hub.

Infrastructure Investments

Port Freeport’s ongoing infrastructure investments, including the Freeport Harbor Channel Improvement Project, have made it a prime location for large vessels. Phyllis Saathoff, Port Freeport Executive Director & CEO, stated that the channel improvements enhance efficiency and demonstrate a commitment to sustainable growth and economic prosperity. The Höegh Aurora’s arrival, she added, validates these investments.

Port Freeport is dedicated to industry partnerships, expanding capabilities, and sustainable innovation. They look forward to continued collaboration with Höegh Autoliners and other industry leaders.
