The Port of Houston Authority’s recent meeting saw the approval of a $745 million capital plan and a $428 million operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024, reports Businesswire.

Capital Plan 

The capital plan focuses on expanding container capacity and redeveloping General Cargo facilities to fuel growth opportunities for customers and local job expansion. Anticipated capital awards of $613 million, including $132 million for the Houston Ship Channel Expansion – Project 11, are on the horizon.

Major Budget Discussion

The 2024 budget emphasizes investments in community, infrastructure, and seeks grants for stewardship efforts, aiming to drive economic prosperity and job creation.

Significant Key

A significant aspect of the workshop was Port Houston’s update to its ES2G Report, showcasing progress, a Sustainability Action Plan, and new targets for achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Changes In Tariffs

The commission port approves the changes in Tariff rate as to address rising costs and maintain competitiveness for Port Houston terminals.

The Port Commission’s next meeting is scheduled for December 12.
