Shore Power Facility
The shore power facility will be set up in the port’s container terminal and is slated to begin operations in 2026
Shore power, or “cold ironing,” refers to the electrical power supply provided to ships when they are docked in ports. This facility allows ships to connect to the local electrical grid and switch off their engines when docked, reducing port emissions and noise pollution.
Global Adoption of Shore Power
Shore power has been gaining traction across ports and ship operators globally because it helps to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while a ship is berthed.
