The Port of Barcelona has announced a €124 million investment to construct three new bulk liquid berths aimed at facilitating the loading and unloading of sustainable fuels. This initiative is part of the port’s broader strategy to support the decarbonization of transport and logistics.
Enhancing Energy Infrastructure
The project includes:
-
Three new berths (Berths 34) at the Energy Dock, which will increase unloading capacity and streamline traffic by product type.
-
Expansion of the existing pit, ensuring seamless connection between unloading arms and industrial facilities.
-
A construction timeline of 38 months for full completion.
Strengthening Barcelona’s Role as an Energy Hub
Once the new berths become operational, the port’s infrastructure will be restructured to optimize operations:
-
The current Berth 32 will be repurposed exclusively for chemicals and liquid agri-food products.
-
A new pontoon berth (Berth 35) will be added to further boost efficiency.
-
Plans include an exclusive berth for car carriers, enhancing logistics for vehicle transport.
These developments position the Port of Barcelona as a key energy hub for Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable maritime logistics.
