Investigation Launched
The Port of Felixstowe and the East Suffolk Council responded to a reported marine pollution incident involving a vessel discharging soot. The Council advised the public to avoid contact with any soot-like residue in the water or on the shore near the port.
A council spokesperson stated, “Although any risk to public health is currently considered low, anyone who comes into contact is advised to wash the substance away thoroughly with soap and water.”
Following an investigation into the incident, it has now been declared closed. The investigation found no evidence of pollution reaching the shoreline at Felixstowe, and any remaining pollution in the water is expected to disperse naturally.
