The Port of Long Beach set a new record in October, moving 987,191 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), marking its strongest monthly performance in 113 years. This achievement, driven by a surge in holiday goods demand and delayed containership arrivals due to a traffic incident and fire near the end of September, surpasses the port’s previous record set in August 2024 by 8%.

- Imports grew by 34.2% to 487,563 TEUs, while exports rose by 25.3% to 112,845 TEUs.
- The movement of empty containers saw a 28.1% increase, totalling 386,782 TEUs.
- Year-to-Date Performance:
- From January to October 2024, the port moved 7,904,564 TEUs, up 20.2% compared to the same period last year.

Port of Long Beach CEO Mario Cordero praised the efforts of the port’s workforce and terminal operators for maintaining efficient operations without congestion or backlogs, emphasizing that demand remains high due to robust consumer purchasing and concerns over potential tariffs. Bonnie Lowenthal, President of the Long Beach Harbor Commission, highlighted the port’s recent achievements as a testament to its strong customer service and collaboration with labour and industry stakeholders, stressing the importance of efficiently moving goods to meet consumer needs during the peak holiday shopping period.
