- Year-to-date (January–November 2024): 7.3% growth, with an additional 97,400 TEUs compared to the same period in 2023.
- Full Container Imports (excluding Bass Strait):
- November increase: 24,200 TEUs (24.9%).
- January–November growth: 43,400 TEUs (8%).
- Growth drivers: Higher volumes of furniture, domestic appliances, and paperboard.
- Full Container Exports (excluding Bass Strait):
- November increase: 6,100 TEUs (13%).
- January–November growth: 33,800 TEUs.
- Contributing commodities: Cotton, timber, hay, chaff & fodder, and wheat.
- Bass Strait Trade:
- November: Slight decline of 800 TEUs (-4.3%).
- January–November: Modest growth of 400 TEUs (0.5%).
- Transhipments:
- November: Strong rise of 4,800 TEUs (30.4%).
- Empty Container Trade:
- November increase: 16,000 TEUs (24.9%).
Overall Performance
The port’s November performance was bolstered by robust growth across key container trade categories, including imports, exports, transshipments, and empty container trade. Higher volumes of essential goods like furniture, cotton, and wheat contributed significantly to this success.
Despite mixed results in Bass Strait trade, the port demonstrated steady performance for the year, reflecting its vital role in Australia’s supply chain and trade logistics.
