The Port of Santos closed in 2024 with a record 179.8 million tonnes of cargo, a 3.8% increase from 2023.
Exports totaled 131.3 million tonnes (+1.0%), while imports surged to 48.5 million tonnes (+12.1%).
Container Handling: A Remarkable Achievement
The port handled over 5.4 million TEUs, a 14.7% growth, crossing the 5 million TEU mark for the first time.
Dry Bulk Segment Drives Growth
Total dry bulk cargo reached 90.7 million tonnes, led by:
- Sugar: 27.0 million tonnes (+17.8%)
- Soybeans: 27.8 million tonnes
- Corn: 15.9 million tonnes
- Other products, including coffee beans (+41.2%) and meat (+31.5%), also performed well.
Liquid Bulk and Breakbulk Cargo Set Records
Liquid bulk cargo totaled 19.6 million tonnes (+1.2%), driven by gasoline (+48.2%) and diesel oil (+25.8%).
Breakbulk cargo reached 9.6 million tonnes (+9.3%), with pulp at 8.1 million tonnes (+11.3%).
Increased Vessel Traffic
The number of vessel calls grew to 5,557 in 2024, reflecting a 1.9% increase compared to 2023.
