The Port of Tyne has unveiled a major redevelopment initiative worth US$203 million to transform 230 acres into the Tyne Clean Energy Park. The project includes 400 meters of deep-water quayside to support offshore renewables, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing operations.
Positioned as a central hub for green energy, the development is expected to generate significant economic and employment benefits while accelerating the UK’s clean energy transition.
Boost to Economy and Employment
The redevelopment holds the potential to create up to 12,000 jobs and contribute around US$7.6 billion to the UK economy.
By enhancing deep-water infrastructure and manufacturing capacity, the project is designed to attract global investment and strengthen the North East as a hub for offshore wind energy. The initiative was officially launched during London International Shipping Week, highlighting its strategic importance for the country’s maritime and renewable energy sectors.
Strategic Infrastructure and Policy Support
The Tyne Clean Energy Park plan includes one kilometer of redeveloped and new heavy-lift deep-water quay, situated within an Industrial Strategy Zone, offering benefits similar to freeports. Incentives such as business rate relief, capital allowances, and tax relief measures make it an attractive investment location.
This redevelopment aligns with the North East’s Local Growth Plan, backed by regional and national leaders, who emphasize its role in boosting coastal economies and solidifying the UK’s position as a global leader in clean energy.
