Port Scrubber Bans Have ‘No Impact’ on Calculations: Star Bulk

While open-loop scrubbers ban is making shipowners apprehensive and jittery, there are few like the Star Bulk who have gone on record stating that port scrubber bans will have no effect on their calculations, reports the Lloyd List.

Star Bulk’s Outlook

“When we did our calculation on scrubbers we didn’t take into account port time at all. We only took into account sea days, so it doesn’t make a difference,” said CEO Petros Pappas during the company’s Q4 earnings call.

How it doesn’t impact?

“Actually, it’s going to potentially be even better because there’s going to be many ports that have no ban on open-loop scrubbers, and there we will be able to use them. Also please keep in mind, in port the consumption is 2.5 tonnes per vessel whereas at sea it can be anywhere between 25-50 tonnes. And therefore, this consumption is very minor”, he added
