- APM Terminals Barcelona and Valencia have joined the Portchain Connect Network to improve berth alignment.
- The integration reduces manual communication and supports faster Just-in-Time port calls, cutting waiting times by about two hours.
- This collaboration boosts berth efficiency, promotes fuel savings of up to 10%, and contributes to lowering CO2 emissions.
APM Terminals Barcelona and Valencia have integrated Portchain Connect to streamline the berth alignment process with shipping lines. By joining the Portchain Connect Network, these two Spanish terminals now have access to a global platform used by over 150 terminals worldwide. This platform allows them to share schedule data securely, enabling their carrier customers to receive earlier and more reliable updates through a single, consistent communication channel for berth coordination.
Optimizing Berth Planning for Greater Efficiency and Sustainability
The implementation of Portchain Connect helps the terminals reduce manual communication efforts, improve the accuracy of berth planning, and increase berth utilization efficiency. For shipping lines, faster berth alignment supports Just-in-Time port calls, which can reduce waiting times by approximately two hours per visit. This improvement also contributes to fuel savings of up to 10 percent on some voyages, ultimately lowering CO2 emissions.
Julián Fernández, Managing Director of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways, highlighted that connecting both Barcelona and Valencia terminals to Portchain Connect offers customers a unified view of berth windows across these key ports. He noted that this integration leads to smoother operations, enhanced berth efficiency, and a more predictable and sustainable supply chain for shipping lines.
Thor Thorup, Chief Commercial Officer and Co-Founder of Portchain, emphasized that adding these terminals strengthens the Portchain network in important Mediterranean hubs. He expressed confidence that this collaboration will boost berth efficiency and reduce emissions for carriers calling at these ports.
