Ports of Stockholm, in collaboration with other ports, has received government approval to apply for EU funding for three sustainability projects. Focus on developing electricity infrastructure to reduce quayside air particle emissions, reports Port Of Stockholm.

Onshore Power Connections in the Baltic Sea Region

Goal to expand onshore power connections for vessels at quayside throughout the Baltic Sea region.

The Swedish Government’s positive decision reflects the prioritization of electrification in the transport sector, particularly shipping.

EU Climate Goals and “Fit for 55” Policy

Aligning with EU 2030 targets, emphasizing onshore power connections for container and passenger ships in core ports.

Collaboration with ports in Gothenburg, Århus, Bremerhaven, Oslo, Hamburg, and Unifeeder.

Baltic Ports for Climate Initiative

Aiming to accelerate onshore power supply (OPS) development in the Baltic Sea region.

Pilot studies at Ports of Stockholm, collaboration with core ports including Klaipėda, Riga, Tallinn, Hamburg, Gdynia, and Gdańsk.

MOS Connection Stockholm-Riga Upgrade

Objective to reduce climate impact of passenger terminals in Stockholm and Riga.

Infrastructure upgrade at Värtahamnen Port and relocation of the ferry terminal in Riga for sustainable shipping services.

Project Timeline and Funding Period

If awarded, projects are to run between 2024 and 2025, or until 2026 at the latest.

Initiatives include shore-side electricity supply, onshore power supply development, and MOS connection upgrade.
