Power Failure Halts LNG Deliveries: Australia Pacific LNG Disruption

220

The power outage on a loaded tanker led to the disruption of the shipment of liquefied natural gas from Australia Pacific LNG. Two LNG cargoes have been delayed by this incident while others expect more disruptive occurrences. The propulsion system of the Cesi Qingdao tanker failed leading the other tankers to block the facility which was greatly hindering the tank’s operation.

Impacts on APLNG Operations and Market Dynamics

The 9 million mtpa capacity facility’s main customers include the Chinese Sinopec and Japanese Kansai Electric. In the meantime, Origin Energy has cut its gas flow into APLNG and reroutes more gas towards Australian east cost markets. The value of deferred cargoes, however, is uncertain depending on the duration of the resolution process.
