- Cavotec has launched PowerAlign, a modular and mobile shore power solution for container terminals.
- The system occupies less than 3.5 m² and keeps the quay area clear for operations.
- PowerAlign offers up to 140 m of reach per unit and complies with IEC 80005-1 standards.
- Designed for flexibility, it supports both new and existing berths with minimal maintenance needs.
Cavotec has introduced PowerAlign, a new mobile and modular shore power system tailored for container terminals, aiming to help ports reduce emissions without sacrificing performance. The solution, unveiled at TOC Europe 2025 in Rotterdam, offers up to 140 meters of coverage from a single unit and can be expanded by connecting additional modules. According to Cavotec, PowerAlign was developed in close collaboration with port operators, shipowners, and terminal equipment manufacturers to ensure safe, efficient, and flexible shore power connections.
A Practical Shore Power Solution for Modern Terminals
PowerAlign is designed to meet the needs of today’s busy container terminals without disrupting operations. Unlike traditional fixed shore power systems that can obstruct crane movement or cargo handling, PowerAlign offers a low-profile socket box and compact footprint of less than 3.5 square meters, helping to keep the quay clear and functional.
Its cable reel is enclosed and positioned at the quay edge, which not only extends cable life but also reduces the need for frequent maintenance—an important benefit for high-traffic and space-limited port environments.
With a reach of up to 140 meters per unit and the option to expand with additional modules, the system adapts to various berth layouts. It supports safe connections in line with IEC 80005-1 standards and can handle up to 16 kA/s. The modular design allows track installation either on the quay face or deck, offering flexibility for both new and existing berths.
By combining compact design, extended reach, and robust safety features, PowerAlign helps container terminals meet environmental regulations while maintaining operational efficiency and quick vessel turnaround times.
