Cavotec has introduced PowerAlign, a new modular and mobile shore power system designed specifically for container terminals. The solution aims to support ports in reducing emissions while preserving operational efficiency and flexibility. Launched at TOC Europe 2025 in Rotterdam, PowerAlign delivers safe and efficient shore power connections with a reach of up to 140 meters per unit and can extend coverage with additional modules. According to the report published by Cavotec, the system was developed in close collaboration with port operators, shipowners, and terminal equipment manufacturers.
PowerAlign Offers Flexible Shore Power for Modern Container Terminals
PowerAlign is designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s container terminals, offering a shore power solution that combines space efficiency with operational performance. Unlike traditional fixed installations that can obstruct crane movement and cargo operations, PowerAlign maintains a clear quay area with its low-profile socket box and compact footprint, occupying less than 3.5 m².
The system is equipped with an enclosed cable reel positioned at the quay edge, which helps extend the life of the cable and minimizes maintenance—an essential benefit for terminals with limited space and high activity levels. Each unit offers up to 140 m of reach, with the option to expand using additional modules for greater flexibility.
Compliant with IEC 80005-1 and capable of handling up to 16 kA/s, PowerAlign ensures safe and reliable connections. Its modular design allows the system to be installed on the quay face or deck, adapting easily to new and existing berths. With optimized cable handling and minimal infrastructure impact, PowerAlign supports container ports in achieving environmental compliance without sacrificing turnaround times or operational efficiency.
