Pacific International Lines (PIL) has officially commenced the construction of its first 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel. This significant milestone was marked by a steel-cutting ceremony held earlier this week at the Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, China, reports Pacific International Lines on LinkedIn.
Technologically Advanced Vessels
A prominent shipping company is significantly advancing its fleet renewal program with a series of new, technologically advanced container vessels, which will incorporate the latest technological and energy-saving features. These new vessels will be equipped with dual-fuel engines and auxiliaries, allowing them to run on both Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and low-sulfur fuel oil. Furthermore, they will leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) for task automation, aiming for more efficient operations and a safer working environment for seafarers.
This development coincides with a celebration held in China for the opening of Hudong Zhonghua’s new corporate headquarters at Changxing Island, located just outside Shanghai. A Chief Marine Officer from the shipping company spoke at the opening ceremony, highlighting their partnership with Hudong Zhonghua to build 10 state-of-the-art container vessels as part of their fleet renewal program. He praised Hudong Zhonghua’s new office as a “remarkable state-of-the-art facility with additional major production areas and the most advanced intelligent systems in China,” noting its significant advantage for the execution of their vessels.
Capitalizing on this opportunity, the shipping company also inaugurated its new site office located inside Hudong Zhonghua’s new corporate headquarters. This co-location strategy is intended to foster even closer collaboration with the shipbuilder, focusing on efficiency, safety, and sustainability in the design and construction of their new vessels.
