Product Tanker Loaded with 4382 Tons of Heavy Oil Ran Aground

On May 27, Product tanker VOLGONEFT-217 loaded with 4382 tons of heavy oil ran aground on 567 kilometer mark river Nizhnyaya Scheksna, near Cherepovets.

What happened?

Reports say that  the ship grounding could be due to a steering failure. The next day the tanker got refloated by its own power and was brought to anchor near the grounding site. Traffic was not disrupted and there was no leak reported. Vessel started on its journey to St-Petersburg.
