According to an article published in Seatrade-Maritime news and authored by Marcus Hand, Singapore has issued a call for proposals for Joint Industry Projects that will help build a resilient and competitive maritime sector post-COVID-19.

An open call by MPA

The open call by the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) with the Maritime Innovation & Technology (MINT) Fund provides up to 50% funding support for impactful projects and 70% for qualifying projects.

The project must address the objective of this call to build a resilient and competitive maritime sector (i.e. port, harbor craft community, shipping, and maritime services), and build new/enhanced industry capabilities, MPA said.

Measurable outcomes

It should include measurable outcomes in terms of enhanced safety, productivity, and cost-saving, and qualitative benefits in terms of enhanced workforce resilience, operations resilience, and customer services resilience.

Potential topics for Joint Industry Projects include – teleconsultation and medication for seafarers, enhanced customer services and minimal touchpoints at piers, and solutions and standards for remote ship inspection and survey. However, applicants are free to propose any innovation project that is relevant to the objective.

Applications opened on 26 May and close on 10 July, with projects expected to commence by 1 September this year.
