Qatar Petroleum (QP) has awarded Spanish engineering firm Técnicas Reunidas a major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for its North Field Expansion Project, says an article published in Offshore Energy.

World’s biggest non associated natural gas field

Técnicas Reunidas will act as the EPC contractor for the expansion of existing liquid products storage and loading facilities. Also, it will deal with the expansion of import facilities and other ancillary facilities and pipelines.

State-owned Qatar Petroleum announced the expansion of the North Field in 2017. This is the world’s biggest single non-associated natural gas field. To remind, QP’s LNG production expansion project also goes under the North Field East (NFE) project.

New LNG trains

The project consists of four new LNG trains. It will start before the end of 2025, as expected by QP. Its capacity is 32 million tons per annum (mpta).

The front-end engineering and design (FEED) work began in early z2018 and this EPC is its result.

The new facilities will be used to handle liquid products from the new LNG trains. They will also support two new LNG trains comprising the North Field South (NFS) project.

NFE project to increase production

Also under this contract, Técnicas Reunidas is to perform the detailed engineering work in Qatar.

When completed, the NFE project will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 mpta to 110 mpta. On the other hand, the NFS project will further increase it to 126 mpta.
