Qatar’s major seaports—Hamad, Ruwais, and Doha—have demonstrated remarkable performance during the first nine months of 2025, underscoring their growing role in supporting the nation’s economy and strengthening its global trade network, reports the Peninsula.

The ports handled over 1.1 million containers between January and September, marking an increase of nearly 2 percent compared to the same period last year.

Qatar Ports maintain strong growth momentum

General and bulk cargo throughput reached more than 1.34 million tonnes, while roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) units exceeded 91,000. Building materials recorded one of the most significant surges, climbing by 136 percent to nearly half a million tonnes. Livestock volumes also grew steadily, with over 400,000 heads handled. In addition, vessel arrivals rose to 2,276, an 11 percent increase, and transshipment operations expanded by about 7 percent year-on-year.

Hamad Port continues to anchor this growth, ranking first in the Gulf region and 11th globally in the latest Container Port Performance Index. The port’s world-class infrastructure and automated systems have greatly improved cargo handling efficiency, enabling smooth operations across diverse categories such as containers, bulk cargo, and vehicles. This efficiency has helped Qatar strengthen its position as a vital maritime hub connecting trade routes between Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

The performance of Qatar’s ports aligns closely with the country’s long-term strategy to diversify its economy beyond hydrocarbons. By enhancing logistics and supply chain efficiency, the ports have become essential facilitators of exports, re-exports, and maritime tourism. Their continued expansion and modernization are expected to further elevate Qatar’s status as a key player in regional and international trade, ensuring sustained growth momentum well into the future.
