ReCAAP ISC Advisory: Enhanced Vigilance In Transiting Areas

151

The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia Information Sharing Centre (ReCAAP ISC) has issued updated advisories regarding maritime security in certain areas. This includes a reassessment of threat levels in the Sulu-Celebes Seas region and recommendations for enhanced vigilance.

Downgrading of Threat Level in Sulu-Celebes Seas

Following Philippine government efforts to neutralize the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in the Sulu archipelago, the threat level of ‘Abduction of Crew for ransom’ has been downgraded from ‘MODERATE’ to ‘MODERATE LOW’. This indicates a reduced likelihood of incidents due to perceived limitations in perpetrator capabilities.

Updated Advisory from ReCAAP ISC

In response to the threat reassessment, ReCAAP ISC has updated its advisory for ships transiting the Sulu-Celebes Seas area. While maintaining vigilance, ships are advised to adopt necessary preventive measures to mitigate potential risks.

Recommendations for Ship Masters and Crew

Ship masters and crew navigating the region are urged to report all incidents of piracy and armed robbery immediately to relevant authorities. Additionally, they should exercise heightened vigilance and implement appropriate preventive measures as outlined in regional guidelines.
