Over the past week, 29 October – 4 November, 2024, one CAT 3 incident of armed robbery against ships in Asia was reported to the ReCAAP ISC, reports Safety4sea.
Area of concern
The incident occurred onboard a bulk carrier while underway southeast of Pulau Iyu Kecil, Indonesia, in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme in Singapore Strait (SS) on 25 Oct 2024. With the incident in SS, a total of 42 incidents were reported in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS) since January 2024. The ReCAAP ISC advises ships to exercise enhanced vigilance when transiting SOMS and the littoral States to increase patrols and enforcement in these areas.
