Over the past week, 17-22 December, one incident of piracy and two incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia were reported to the ReCAAP ISC, reports Safety4sea.
The occurrence of piracy (CAT4) happened locally available a flatboat towed by a towing boat in the South China Ocean on 11 Dec 2024 at 0940 hrs The culprits were not outfitted and no group wounds were accounted for. Besides, two occurrences of outfitted burglary against ships (one Feline 3, with the culprits equipped with blades and a weapon like item and one Feline 4) happened installed ships while in progress in the eastward path of the Traffic Partition Plan (TSS) in the Singapore Waterway (SS) on 17 Dec 2024 and 22 Dec 2024 separately.
Area of concern
With these two occurrences in SS, a sum of 61 episodes (60 occurrences in SS and one episode in the Malacca Waterway) were accounted for in the Waterways of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS) since January 2024. The ReCAAP ISC encourages boats to practice improved carefulness while traveling SOMS and the littoral States to build watches and implementation here.
Update of ReCAAP ISC Warning
Following the downsizing of the danger on the ‘Kidnapping of Group for Payoff in the Sulu-Celebes Oceans’ by the PCG, ReCAAP ISC has refreshed its warning for boats to “practice carefulness and take on vital preventive measures while traveling the region.”
