ReCAAP ISC Reports Four Armed Robbery Incidents In Asia

Safety4Sea highlights that, between October 15-21, the ReCAAP ISC recorded four incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia. Three incidents occurred on bulk carriers in the Singapore Strait, while one targeted a petroleum/chemical tanker at Medan Anchorage, Indonesia.

The downgrade of Abduction Threats in Sulu-Celebes Seas

The Philippine Coast Guard, with support from stakeholders, downgraded the abduction threat level in the Sulu-Celebes Seas from “MODERATE” to “MODERATE LOW” due to the neutralization of the Abu Sayyaf Group’s operations in the area. Ships are still advised to exercise vigilance while transiting the region.

The ReCAAP ISC has advised shipmasters to remain cautious and promptly report any incidents to Philippine and Malaysian authorities, following an uptick in sea robbery attempts in the Singapore Strait earlier in October.
