ReCAAP ISC: Two Incidents Of Armed Robbery 27 November – 2 December

Over the past week, 27 November – 2 December, one CAT 4 incident and one CAT 2 incident of armed robbery against ships in Asia were reported to the ReCAAP ISC, reports Safety4sea.

Area of concern 

The CAT 4 incident occurred onboard a bulk carrier while at anchor at Panjang Anchorage, Indonesia, on 16 Oct 2024. The CAT 2 incident occurred onboard a bulk carrier while underway in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Straits (SS), on 2 Dec 2024. With the incident in SS, a total of 54 incidents (53 incidents in Singapore Strait and one incident in Malacca Strait) were reported in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS) since January 2024. The ReCAAP ISC advises ships to exercise enhanced vigilance when transiting SOMS and the littoral States to increase patrols and enforcement in these areas.
