The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ISC) has been told by authorities in the Philippines that the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) are planning to conduct kidnappings in the Sulu – Celebes Sea East of Sabah.
Warning Issues
The ASG are reported to be heavily armed and targeting crews onboard foreign vessels transiting the region.
Moreover, further reports indicate that the group intends to use an unmarked blue and white local boat known as a ‘Jungkong’ to carry out the attacks.
Members are advised to avoid the waters off Eastern Sabah and the Sulu – the Celebes Sea when possible, and in any event operate with extreme caution.
