‘Energy efficiency’ and ‘Bunker Savings’ are the two mantras which the shipping world is reciting at least for the last ten some years. With IMO’s mandate on fuel consumption reporting and EU MRV regulations springing up, companies are seeking innovative ways and methods to save fuel and prove the vessels are energy efficient.
Here is a hot news where Tristar Group, based in UAE, held the naming ceremony for Silver Manoora, the first of the six MR newbuild tankers. The main point to note is that these ships feature a ‘bunker-saving’ hull. These ‘bunker-saving’ hull on the tankers are said to have a hull form design that improves fuel efficiency and thereby be energy efficient. All these 6 tankers are said to be on a long term charter with Shell.
“This is indeed a red letter day for Tristar. Today we are proud owners of a brand new ship with five more to follow during the course of this year,” said Tristar’s CEO, Eugene Mayne, at the ceremony.
Eugene Mayne added, “The new vessels will operate with lower fuel consumption than existing tonnage, making them much more economical to operate,”
“They will be fitted with additional fuel saving equipment such as Propeller Boss Cap Fins, New Profile Technology Propeller and Trim Optimisation System.”
