  • Rijeka Gateway Secures Renewable Energy for Terminal Operations.
  • Adriatic’s Most Advanced Terminal to Run on Green Power.
  • Sustainable Energy Powers Croatia’s Rijeka Gateway.

An important logistics project in Croatia, the Rijeka Gateway has ensured supplying electricity from renewable sources into powering the operations of the container terminal. That should save a substantial quantity of CO2 and other harmful gas emissions, reports Container News.

Leadership of the Adriatic Logistics

The APM Terminals-ENNA Group joint venture will be the Adriatic region’s most technologically advanced terminal. The vast majority of its equipment will be electrified and controlled remotely, with the capability to further minimize potential impact on the environment while optimizing efficiency. The new terminal will create approximately 300 new jobs once it is fully operational.

Commitment to Green Energy from the Start

Since the construction phase began, the terminal will already be supplied with renewable electricity during its operational phase as well. Renewable energy is mainly put in place through solar and wind power. ENNA, the electricity supplier of the terminal, guarantees that the supply is fully green while issuing certified guarantees.

“We have launched several initiatives that can help us become one of the most sustainable terminals in this part of the world. One of these initiatives is the use of renewable energy sources. As a large consumer of electricity, we believe that using sustainable energy sources is a vital step in achieving the terminal’s long-term sustainability,” commented Peter Corfitsen, CEO of Rijeka Gateway.

Advanced Environmental Measures

Rijeka Gateway also cares for the environment in several ways as listed below:

  1. Water Management and Marine Protection: There is a highly efficient water management and drainage system so that it would not allow marine environment pollution to occur.
  2. Reduction of Light Pollution: The automated light systems will eradicate light pollution, and unused terminal sections will not be covered with unwarranted lighting.
  3. Noise Reduction Measures: Several measures will be adopted to reduce noise within legal acceptability. This will incorporate shore power, thus reducing the need for ships to run their engines when in port, soft-landing cranes for the handling of containers and white-noise sounds to replace the noise of beeping throughout the terminal.

Pioneering Sustainable Logistics in the Region

Focusing on renewable energy, cutting-edge systems of environmental protection, and job creation, Rijeka Gateway Terminal will be a benchmark for its category. It is ahead in terms of sustainability. Not only a fortified idea of Croatia as a special logistics crossroads but an endorsement of a greener, responsible future.
