Passenger ro-ro cargo ship issued a distress signal after getting caught in rough weather in Taiwan Strait, reports Maritime Bulletin.
What happened?
Passenger ro-ro cargo ship SEATRAN FERRY 12 (ex- OLIVE MARU NO.8) got caught in rough weather in Taiwan Strait off Kaohsiung Taiwan, and issued a distress signal, late at night Oct 23.
Rescue team
Taiwan Rescue services launched SAR. Five ship’s crew were found in the water, floating in life jackets.
According to reports, all were rescued and two of them suffered injuries. Another 5 crew are reported to be missing and SAR is ongoing.
About the vessel
SEATRAN FERRY 12 was bought by Thailand SEATRAN FERRY company in Japan earlier this year. The ship was under way from Japan to Thailand, Gulf of Siam, to be deployed on Gulf passenger lines.
All 10 crew are reportedly, Thai nationalities.
