Robbers Steal Oil from Anchored Ship

On the early hours of August 19, few robbers boarded an anchored tanker and reportedly stole oil.

What happened?

The tanker was anchored at Lagos General Purpose Anchorage, Nigeria.

According to a report by ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB), the alert duty watch keepers onboard the bridge of the product tanker spotted a floating object near the starboard bow. All other crew members were ordered to proceed towards the citadel.

Warning shots fired:

The watchkeepers alerted the armed security guard who fired warning shots. One robber was spotted jumping overboard from the forecastle.

Hose pipe inserted:

After the robbers fled, security guards checked the deck areas,with the help of the crew members. They noticed a flexible hose pipe inserted into a Butterworth pocket of No.1S COT.

One robber caught red handed:

During the thorough search, one robber was noticed hiding in the hawse pipe, he was apprehended and tied up by the security guard and later handed over to the local agents.
