Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam (ECT) will soon be equipped with shore power facilities through a collaboration with Rotterdam Shore Power (RSP), a partnership between Eneco and the Port of Rotterdam Authority. The first vessels are expected to connect to these facilities by 2028, significantly reducing the port’s carbon emissions.
Shore Power Implementation Timeline
The shore power facilities at ECT terminals will be operational by 2030, allowing around 5,000 sea-going vessels to connect annually. The initiative aims to cut the port’s CO2 emissions by approximately 35,000 tonnes per year, marking one of the largest shore power projects in Europe.
Partnerships and Responsibilities
RSP will construct and manage the shore power facilities, while ECT and the Port of Rotterdam Authority will handle the civil integration at the quay and terminal site. This collaboration aligns with the port’s climate neutrality goals by 2050, as part of the European Green Deal.
Commitment to Sustainability
This project reflects Rotterdam Port’s commitment to enhancing environmental sustainability, reducing emissions, noise pollution, and greening the maritime sector. The initiative will also support ECT’s goal to be emission-free by 2035, positioning Rotterdam as a leader in sustainable port operations.
