Rottneros And AtoB@C Shipping Strengthen Partnership For Greener Maritime Transport

Rottneros, a leading producer of pulp and molded fiber from sustainable forests, has extended its long-standing partnership with AtoB@C Shipping, part of ESL Shipping. The collaboration will now feature the use of a new plug-in hybrid vessel designed to cut carbon emissions by up to 50% per ton-mile, marking a major step toward sustainable sea transport.

A Decade of Collaboration Strengthened by Innovation

Rottneros and AtoB@C Shipping have worked together for more than ten years, ensuring reliable and efficient logistics for pulp transportation. The new long-term agreement reflects mutual trust and a shared commitment to environmental progress. According to Magnus Malmborg, Supply Chain Manager at Rottneros AB, the decision to continue the partnership stems from AtoB@C’s ability to tailor a vessel specifically for Rottneros’ operational needs. This collaboration not only secures long-term efficiency but also demonstrates a tangible move toward greener sea infrastructure.

Hybrid Vessel to Boost Efficiency and Reduce Emissions

Under the new contract, AtoB@C Shipping will retrofit one of its advanced plug-in hybrid vessels with a crane, transforming it into a self-loading and discharging ship. This feature is particularly beneficial for Rottneros’ Vallvik port and their facility in Norway, where shore crane capacity is limited. The hybrid vessel promises enhanced operational flexibility and up to 50% lower CO₂ emissions compared to traditional ships. Frida Rowland, Commercial Director at AtoB@C Shipping, emphasized that these vessels offer not just sustainability benefits but also increased capacity and reliability ensuring steady, safe, and eco-friendly deliveries.

The renewed partnership between Rottneros and AtoB@C Shipping exemplifies how innovation and long-term collaboration can drive the maritime industry toward sustainability. By introducing plug-in hybrid vessels, the two companies are setting a strong example for reducing emissions and optimizing port operations, reinforcing their commitment to a cleaner, more efficient future for sea transport.
