The Ningbo Containerised Freight Index is published weekly by the Ningbo Shipping Exchange and promoted to the market by the Baltic Exchange. It reports general rates for 20-ft, 40-ft and Hi-Cube containers and helps establish a benchmark for spot freight costs on major shipping lines from Ningbo, People’s Republic of China, reports Baltic Exchange.
Weekly Route Updates
As of November 1, 2024, there was a significant shift for the Ningbo Containerised Freight Index (NCFI) in all its principal routes compared to October 25, 2024. Ningbo to Europe surged up by 14.66%, from 1496.41 to 1715.84. Ningbo to the West Mediterranean moved up by 10.07%, from 1740.34 to 1915.56.
For the Ningbo to East Mediterranean route, there was a substantial increase of 15.13%, with rates moving from 1316.74 to 1516.00. The Ningbo to Middle East route had a relatively minor increase of 3.11%, with rates increasing from 1196.34 to 1233.55. These changes reflect dynamic pricing trends influenced by factors across these international shipping routes.
Ports Served by Route
Ningbo connects the ports of Hamburg and Rotterdam to Europe. For Ningbo to the West Mediterranean, major ports include Barcelona, Valencia, and Genoa. For the Ningbo route to the East Mediterranean, the key ports serve Piraeus and Istanbul. Last on the list is the Ningbo to Middle East route, serving Dammam and Dubai. These serve as evidence of the strategic reach of the shipping lanes of Ningbo across Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East.
