Royal Caribbean Group has solidified its future growth by signing an agreement with Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku to build a fourth Icon Class ship, set to be delivered in 2027. The partnership, which has already produced a game-changing Icon of the Seas, includes options to build two additional Icon Class ships. The decision underscores Royal Caribbean’s commitment to expanding its fleet and providing guests with extraordinary vacation experiences.
Continued Success of Icon Class
Building on the success of Icon of the Seas and the anticipated launch of Star of the Seas in 2025, Royal Caribbean is excited to add another Icon Class ship. These ships offer a unique blend of vacation experiences, from resort-style relaxation to theme park-like adventures. Icon of the Seas has set new standards for guest satisfaction and financial performance, positioning the Icon Class as a cornerstone of Royal Caribbean’s future expansion.
Economic Impact and Innovation in Finland
The new order also reflects the positive impact on Finland’s maritime industry. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo emphasized the importance of Royal Caribbean’s continued investment in the country’s shipbuilding sector. Meyer Turku’s CEO, Tim Meyers, highlighted the shipyard’s innovation in energy efficiency and naval architecture, further establishing Finland as a leader in the global maritime industry.
Royal Caribbean’s Expanding Newbuild Pipeline
With seven new ships already on order and two shipyard options, Royal Caribbean’s newbuild pipeline continues to grow. This year alone, the company introduced four new ships across its brands, including the iconic Icon of the Seas. The company’s commitment to innovation and its longstanding relationship with Meyer Turku continue to shape the future of vacation experiences.
This agreement is subject to customary conditions, including financing.
