A Russian cargo ship sank in the Mediterranean Sea after an explosion in the engine room. 14 crew members were rescued, but two are still missing, reports CNN.

Shipwreck Debris Confirmed

Spanish maritime authorities confirmed the sinking of the Russian cargo ship.  A warning was issued to nearby vessels to be vigilant and report any sightings of debris.

The vessel was en route to Vladivostok, carrying cranes for port infrastructure development. However, Ukraine’s intelligence agency claimed the ship was heading to Syria, citing initial mechanical problems during the voyage.

Video footage captured the vessel listing heavily before it sank, corroborating reports of potential issues during its journey.

Ukraine’s intelligence agency alleged that Russia was using the ship to withdraw military equipment from Syria following the ouster of its ally, Bashar al-Assad. This claim aligns with reports from US officials of a significant Russian troop and equipment withdrawal from Syria.
