Safe Bulkers has reached an agreement to purchase a Japanese Kamsarmax dry-bulk vessel for an undisclosed sum, says an article published on Ship-technology.
Vessel designed
The 81,800 deadweight ton (DWT) newbuild ship is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2025.
In order to lower greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) according to International Maritime Organisation (IMO) goals, the vessel is designed to comply with the Phase 3 norms of the Energy Efficiency Design Index.
Emissions rules
Furthermore, the company stated that the ship is in line with NOx-Tier III, the latest NOx emissions rules.
It is a ‘sister vessel to a number of newbuilds in the company’s order book with advanced energy efficiency characteristics and lower fuel consumption’.
Company anticipated
After the delivery of MV Climate Ethics in January, Safe Bulkers now has an order book of nine newbuild vessels, including this newest ship.
The company is anticipated to receive four vessels this year, three in 2024 and two in 2025.
One vessel belongs to the Post-Panamax class, while the remaining eight are Kamsarmax class vessels.

In July 2021, Safe Bulker agreed to buy three Japanese dry-bulk Kamsarmax class ships.
Safe Bulkers offers marine dry-bulk transportation services and is mainly engaged in the transportation of bulk cargoes, such as grain, coal and iron ore.

The company also offers shipping routes for major users of marine dry-bulk transportation services.
Its portfolio comprises 44 vessels, including 12 eco-ships and three IMO GHG Phase 3, NOx-Tier III vessels.
