Samsung Heavy Industries is accelerating the MASGA (MASGA·Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Cooperation) project by collaborating with domestic ship design and equipment specialists.

Samsung Heavy, DSEC join hands for U.S. shipbuilding boost

Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 6th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with DSEC, a ship design and equipment procurement company, to establish a strategic partnership. DSEC, a mid-sized domestic firm, collaborates with U.S. shipyards in various fields, including design, equipment supply, maintenance, and shipyard consulting for commercial and specialized vessels. With extensive experience in ship design and procurement within the U.S., the company is expected to create significant synergy with Samsung Heavy Industries.

Under this agreement, the two companies will cooperate in areas such as mid-sized commercial shipbuilding, shipyard modernization consulting, ship modifications, and LNG carrier cargo tank repairs both domestically and internationally, including in the U.S.

Earlier, Samsung Heavy Industries signed an MOU with the U.S.-based Bigger Marine Group for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of U.S. Navy support vessels. The agreement aimed to actively participate in MRO projects for the U.S. Navy and the Military Sealift Command and pursue joint shipbuilding with U.S. partner shipyards in the future.

Samsung Heavy Industries stated, “The agreement with DSEC, following the strategic partnership with the U.S. Bigger Marine Group, will serve as an opportunity to create new growth engines.” It added, “By linking shipbuilding and offshore engineering technologies with DSEC’s design and procurement capabilities in the U.S., we plan to establish an optimized value chain for the MASGA project.”
