Samsung Heavy Industries Co, the world’s third-largest shipbuilder by orders, announced in Seoul on Wednesday that it had won a large new order for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, reports Yonhap News Agency.

$514 Million LNG Carrier Order

Samsung Heavy Industries has reportedly secured a 678.3 billion won (US$514 million) order from an Asian shipper, whose identity remains undisclosed. According to a disclosure filed with regulators, the order requires the company to deliver LNG ships by April 2027.

High Performance in 2024

The order will bring Samsung Heavy Industries’ total order value for 2024 to $5.4 billion, accounting for 56 per cent of the company’s target order value of $9.7 billion this year.
This is the 24th vessel order Samsung Heavy Industries has received since the start of 2024.

Healthy Order Backlog

The company also announced it has an order backlog priced at $31.9 billion. The order backlog should keep Samsung’s yard in Geoje, 331 kilometres south of Seoul, occupied for the next three years.
