Samsung Heavy Industries has announced a new shipbuilding agreement that further expands its collaboration with domestic shipyards. The latest contract reinforces full-ship construction capabilities while supporting industry-wide growth and operational efficiency within South Korea’s shipbuilding sector, reports CHOSUNBIZ.
Details of the New Shipbuilding Contract
On the 16th, Samsung Heavy Industries confirmed it had signed a contract with HSG Sungdong Shipbuilding Co. for the construction of two crude oil carriers on a full-ship basis. Full-ship construction involves building the entire vessel rather than supplying individual blocks, allowing for greater control over quality, scheduling, and integration.
This deal follows a similar agreement last month, when two crude oil carriers were also ordered under a full-ship construction arrangement.
Expanding Capabilities Through Collaboration
According to Samsung Heavy Industries, the partnership enables HSG Sungdong Shipbuilding Co. to expand its operations into full-ship construction while securing a stable workload. The collaboration is positioned as a co-growth model, combining technical expertise and operational strengths to enhance competitiveness across the domestic shipbuilding industry.
Supporting Regional Employment and Industry Growth
The company highlighted that such cooperation is expected to contribute to job creation in the South Gyeongsang region and help revitalize the local economy. By strengthening ties between major and mid-sized shipbuilders, the initiative supports a more balanced and resilient industrial ecosystem.
Operational Efficiency and Long-Term Benefits
Samsung Heavy Industries also noted that the arrangement allows for streamlined processes and improved efficiency, reinforcing its position in managing complex vessel construction projects. The company views this collaborative approach as a sustainable model for long-term growth within South Korea’s shipbuilding sector.
