  • Refinery Terminal in Western India Receives Restricted Shipment.
  • No Immediate Response from Refinery or Vessel Operators.

A tanker that’s currently facing international sanctions has managed to offload Russian crude at an Indian terminal, despite a recent ban on blacklisted vessels at that facility, according to ship tracking data from LSEG and Kpler released on Tuesday, reports Reuters.

Cargo Details

The ship unloaded around 1 million barrels of Urals crude at a terminal linked to a refinery in western India, as per Kpler’s data. This tanker has been blacklisted by both the European Union and Britain for transporting Russian oil and is operated by a management firm based in the Middle East.

No Immediate Response from Stakeholders

Neither the refinery nor the management company of the vessel responded to requests for comments outside of office hours. Attempts to reach the listed owning entity were also unsuccessful.

Second Sanctioned Vessel Alters Course

In a related development, another sanctioned tanker carrying about 1 million barrels of Russian crude intended for the same refinery changed its course this week to dock at a different Indian port. Tracking reports indicated that the vessel was originally headed for the restricted terminal until late last week.

Ban on Sanctioned Vessels at Indian Ports

Just last week, a major Indian port operator announced new restrictions that prevent vessels under EU, UK, or US sanctions from entering any of its 14 facilities, including the western India terminal where the crude was offloaded. This terminal is utilised by several Indian refiners to import oil, including shipments from Russia.
