- Sanmar Delivers High-Performance Escort Tug to P&O Maritime Logistics.
- Leadership Praises Collaboration in Sanmar and P&O’s Tugboat Expansion.
- P&O Maritime Logistics to Receive Next Tugboat, P&O ASIA, in Fleet Expansion Efforts.
Sanmar Shipyards has delivered its newest technologically advanced escort tug, P&O GAYNDE, to long-time customer P&O Maritime Logistics of DP World. As of now, the fruitful collaboration between the two companies for nearly two decades on issues related to sustainability and innovation along with smooth operations will add this new vessel, reports Sanmar.
Advanced RAstar 2900SX Design
This P&O GAYNDE is based on the RAstar 2900SX design, specifically designed for Sanmar by the Canadian naval architect Robert Allan Ltd. The single ASD tugboat was built as BIGAÇAY XIV during the construction in Turkiye, with a sponsored hull form, which was tested in both model and full-scale trials. The capabilities of this design have improved escort towing along with seakeeping performances, which render the tug useful for operation in tough environments.
Technical Specifications of P&O GAYNDE
The P&O GAYNDE measures:
- Length Overall (LOA): 29.4 meters.
- Moulded Breadth: 13.3 meters.
- Moulded Depth: 5.5 meters.
- Design Draft: 5.75 meters.
It has an in-service bollard pull of 80 tonnes ahead and 75 tonnes astern, operates up to a free-running speed of 12 knots, and can accommodate up to eight crew on board. In addition to its versatility in expanding escort operations, it is also equipped with FiFi1 fire-fighting capabilities.
Aligning with Global Environmental Standards
To further show the company’s commitment to providing environmentally friendly solutions for maritime services, P&O GAYNDE is operating under IMO Tier III emission standards. This is just one more testament to the company’s interest in environmental stewardship and its drive for effective, safe, and sustainable port operations.
A History of Collaboration and Innovation
Since 2013, Sanmar has supplied eight tugs to P&O Maritime Logistics, marking a mutually beneficial partnership. Notable deliveries include:
- 2013-2014: Two Bakirçay Series ASD tugboats (BULANI and SEREIA) to Mozambique.
- 2015: Bogaçay Series ASD tugboat (SHAHEEN 2020) to the United Arab Emirates.

The range of tugs that we have delivered to P&O Maritime Logistics in the past decade or so is an example of how we are able to meet an operator’s specific needs in differing ports across the globe. We work closely with both new and existing clients at every stage to ensure we provide a service tailored to their individual operations.”
Nikhil Ahluwalia, Operations Director – Port Services at P&O Maritime Logistics said “We are very happy to continue our fleet expansion in collaboration with Sanmar Shipyards, with whom we have a long-standing relationship.
