Sanmar Shipyards started 2025 with a contract to build a Boğaçay Series tugboat for Ultratug Mexico, a prominent operator at Lazaro Cardenas Port on Mexico’s Pacific coast. This marks Sanmar’s first tugboat delivery to Ultratug, signifying an important milestone in their partnership.

Key Features of the Tugboat

  • Design:
    • Based on the RAmparts 2400SX-MKII design by Robert Allan Ltd., customized to meet the specific operational needs of Ultratug Mexico.
    • Measures 24.4m LOA, with a 12m moulded beam, ensuring greater performance and stability.
  • Accommodation:
    • Capacity for up to eight crew members.
    • Includes two single-berth cabins in the deckhouse and three double cabins below the deck.
  • Green Credentials:
    • Equipped with IMO Tier III compliant CAT 3516E engines, delivering over 2,200 kW each.
    • Bollard pull: Over 75 tons.
    • Free running speed: Approximately 12.5 knots.
    • Compatible with Caterpillar SCR exhaust gas after treatment, reducing NOx emissions.
