Reports indicate that new fuel oil leaks have been detected in the Kerch Strait from the Russian tankers that sank in December 2024. Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation cited satellite images from April 3rd as evidence of these leaks, reports The New Voice Of Ukraine.

Sounding The Alarm

Environmentalists are sounding the alarm regarding a recent oil spill, but Russian officials have reportedly been slow to respond.

According to Russia’s Central Oil and Gas Commission, a significant portion of the spilled oil sank due to low temperatures. However, there is concern that this oil will resurface as the weather becomes warmer.

Experts are forecasting the potential for new fuel oil spills along the coasts of occupied Crimea and Russia’s Krasnodar Oblast in April. Environmentalists estimate that cleanup efforts will be extensive, potentially taking at least three years. The full restoration of the Black Sea coast is predicted to be a long-term process, possibly requiring five to ten years.
