Saudi Arabia’s port sector has emerged as a highly attractive platform for major international companies and both foreign and local capital investments. With investments in this sector surpassing SR10 billion, the Kingdom has significantly contributed to economic growth, knowledge transfer, and job creation, establishing over 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. These efforts have bolstered Saudi Arabia’s position as a pivotal global logistics hub.

The New Logistics Zone at Jeddah Islamic Port

A key development within this sector is the newly established logistics zone at Jeddah Islamic Port. This zone is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the Kingdom’s economic activities by offering highly efficient logistics services that support trade and export operations to international markets. Additionally, it aims to improve supply chain operations, aligning with the ambitious goals set forth by the National Transport and Logistics Strategy under Vision 2030, with the continued support of the crown prince.

Strategic Partnerships and Advanced Facilities

The Saudi Ports Authority, led by its president, has emphasized that this new logistics zone is a testament to the numerous strategic partnerships that the authority, also known as Mawani, has forged with prominent global and national companies. Covering an area of 225,000 square meters, the logistics zone boasts a variety of facilities including a general cargo storehouse, refrigerated food storage areas, a re-export and shipping area for small loads, and a high-tech e-commerce center equipped with advanced mechanical solutions.

Commitment to Gender Diversity and Workforce Development

One notable feature of the logistics zone is its commitment to gender diversity through the establishment of an in-house women’s academy. This academy provides specialized training programs, with Maersk, a key player in the zone, spearheading efforts to create job opportunities for Saudi women, thereby making a significant impact on workplace gender diversity.

Integration of Modern Technologies and Security Measures

The logistics zone operates under an advanced warehouse management system that incorporates modern digital solutions for efficient inventory management. It also employs the latest security technologies to ensure the safety of the zone, its workers, and the goods of its customers. This combination of innovation, strategic partnerships, and a focus on inclusivity makes Saudi Arabia’s port sector a dynamic and forward-looking environment for global investment.
