The Saudi Ports Authority (“Mawani”) recorded significant growth in cargo and container handling in July 2025, reinforcing its role as a global logistics hub. The surge in activity reflects the Kingdom’s expanding trade with global markets, improved supply chain efficiency, and the ongoing implementation of Saudi Vision 2030 objectives.

Surge in Container and Cargo Throughput

In July 2025, Mawani’s ports handled 722,502 TEUs, marking a 12.01% increase compared to 645,019 TEUs in July 2024. Transshipment containers rose sharply by 35.34%, reaching 175,666 compared to 129,797 last year. Export containers climbed 12.86% to 275,098 TEUs, while imports showed a slight rise of 0.10%, totaling 271,738 TEUs.

Total cargo volumes grew by 2.81% to 21.18 million tons, comprising 461,958 tons of general cargo, 4.09 million tons of dry bulk, and 16.62 million tons of liquid bulk. Livestock imports also increased by 13.18%, reaching 582,708 head.

Boost in Maritime Traffic and Passenger Movement

Maritime traffic at Saudi ports rose 11.27%, with 1,017 ships arriving compared to 914 last year. Passenger numbers recorded a sharp jump of 41.70%, reaching 73,953 travelers. However, vehicle volumes declined by 22.66%, dropping to 69,969 units.
These trends highlight the diversification of port activities, with a greater focus on cargo, passenger transport, and value-added maritime services, including projects like the planned integrated ship fueling center at King Fahd Port.

The July 2025 performance underscores the strategic role of Saudi ports in supporting global trade, ensuring food security, and driving economic diversification. With container handling, cargo volumes, and maritime traffic showing strong growth, Mawani continues to advance its mission under Saudi Vision 2030 to position the Kingdom as a leading global logistics powerhouse.
