Scandlines and Caterpillar Motoren signed an MoU to explore the viability of using methanol as a fuel for MaK-powered ferries. It will be used in discussing mutual insights and innovation opportunities regarding methanol solutions toward the common target of reduced CO2 emissions for ferry operations, reports LinkedIn.

The MoU gives a description of a project to retrofit ferries powered by MaK M 32 C engines with methanol as a dual fuel instead of pure diesel. This is considered a mutual commitment to greener propulsion systems for maritime transport.
